Backpacks 4 KIDS

This initiative distributes school supplies, including book bags, bound composition books, paper, pencils, flash drives and head sets to the youth we serve.

The book bags are stuffed with supplies that have been identified by the teachers so the contents are appropriate for each child's grade level. They are delivered to students identified through Social Workers with the Department of Social Services (DSS).

The assembly line process was made up of volunteers from the WAVES 4 K.I.D.S. board of directors, social workers from DSS, and members from the Guardian ad Litem program.

In August of 2019 we delivered 141

In August of 2020 we delivered 165

In August of 2021 we delivered 185

In August of 2022 we delivered 221

In August of 2023 we delivered 236

In August of 2024 we delivered 230

Approval Process:

Requests, on School Supply Requisition Forms, are presented to WAVES 4 K.I.D.S. They note the age and sex of the child and the supplies requested in accordance with the child's school requirements. The DSS supervisor reviews the request to ensure other funds are not available and forwards the request to WAVES for processing.

Impact:

For Brunswick County children, our goal is to provide youth in difficult situations necessary tools to help them succeed in the classroom. It allows them to focus their energies on learning, without the fear of having insufficient supplies.
